What Can Fall Teach Us?

Fall is upon us

Undoubtedly my favorite season of the year, Fall always seems to ask a question. With the swelling of color in the leaves, the gentle breezes, the gradual shift in temperature, it asks us if we will allow the change, if we will embrace it.

Fall is the beginning of the end of our calendar year. If we pay attention, we see and feel the wisdom it inevitably and effortlessly shares with each of us: that all is subject to change, all is subject to death, all is impermanence.

Just as the leaves stop synthesizing sun rays for food, and let go their grip on the tree, so we must release our mental hold on what we believe to be set, solid, unbreakable. It is the manifestation of the I don’t know of life, (which we speak about in the interview above). If we can recognize our existence as such, therein lies liberation.

Above you will see an audio bar right beneath my photograph. It is an interview I had the honor of being part of with a wonderful person, who I met just a few months ago, named Soul Dancer, the founder of Soul University. He is a seasoned social worker, monk, and shaman, and has (I think) a deep well of wisdom to share with us all. After you listen to the interview, click the link to above to see what he’s all about.

You can also listen to the full three-hour interview here. It’s quite a show with some pretty remarkable people talking about their own unique experiences. Enjoy!

Wishing you a mindful fall season.
